This client was searching for office furniture in Los Angeles for their new space and chose to partner with our office interiors design firm. It was our good fortune to help them develop a concept for office design involving a semi-open office concept in the center, with perimeter private offices visible through glass panel walls.
In the center area we designed and specified 13 positions in a bullpen office layout consisting of 6 double workstations and 1 single bullpen desk. Each 3-sided bullpen cubicle hosts two employees with an overall inner dimension of 12’ long x 6’ deep, meaning each partner has 6’x6’ of individual L-shaped worktop area. To avoid cubicle wars we accomplished territorial separation by adding smartly placed storage both overhead and underneath the work surface. We also provided each cubicle dweller with brightly colored thumb tack boards to add some pop to their cubicle color scheme.
We classify this as a “semi” open office layout because the client still wanted a degree of privacy to break up the space. We honored this request by using high panels in between bullpens and short panels along the aisles. We built these office workstations with our O2 line of Herman Miller clone.
In the private offices we used a Canadian manufacturer who produces custom casegoods furniture with curvilinear laminate worksurfaces in a similar finish, to mimic the look and feel of the open office workstations.
